To cater continuously increasing product quality requirements, VTPL provides wide range of high-accuracy 3D measurement solutions for Automobile, Pump and Valve, Aerospace, Medical equipment's, Turbine, heavy engineering and manufacturing industries. Verifying critical dimensions like Flatness, Perpendicularity, Concentricity and true Positions are difficult to measure with conventional measuring methods. Using our latest portable CMM's and 3D scanning systems we are able to capture data from a wide range of applications including small switchgear plastic parts, gas turbine blades, automotive and aircraft components & fixtures, to large wind turbine blades to name a few. As per need of a job, we provide these services on-site or in-house as 3rd Party inspection solutions to reduce overall production costs and improve inspection throughput.
Tactile Probe Inspection Using Arm Type Portable CMM
Mode of Report: Soft Copy
Inspection Service For: Industrial
Inspection Method: Specific Instrumentation
At VTPL we use arm type portable CMM's for small to medium volume inspection (from 10mm up to 2.5 meter). We use Faro platinum arms for measuring volume of 1.2 meter & 2.5 meter & Romer absolute arm for inspection up to 3.5 meter volume.
Dimensional Inspection and GD&T Evaluation
Advantages of using portable CMM's above conventional inspection method
Repeatability of measurement
Inspection with single reference
Geometric dimensioning & tolerance can be checked for large volume components
Prototype or first article from any production process should be measured thoroughly, as it establishes accuracy of whole process. We offer service to validate first article along with pattern, die, mold & fixture from that the component is produced. Our comprehensive solution involves the entire inspection of the part, comparison to CAD file and reporting of the deviation results.
CAD model represents the ideal part and is the perfect reference for comparing a machined part to its original specifications. 3D scanning to CAD Inspection is the process of comparing parts CAD model with 3D point cloud data generated by 3D scanner. This inspection process Eliminate the need of 2D drawings for inspection. In this process, scanned data gathered using 3D scanner is taken to RE software's like Geomagic or Polyworks and aligned to the nominal CAD model. That provides a graphic comparison in the form of a color deviation map displaying differences between the scanned physical part and that of the CAD model. By comparing the Scanning data of manufactured parts with the original design (CAD geometry), information about whether the part is within the critical tolerance zone or not can be known by color plot and table (X,Y,Z) deviation reports.
This process is rapidly becoming the process of choice for numerous quality applications involving complex surface geometry's.
It is very difficult define dimensional positions of each and every 3D contour control point. The best technique to check part with complex 3D contours such as automotive sheet metal panels, castings with variable fillet blends and composite fiber components is to compare with a 3D CAD model of the same part.
For the measurement of materials sensitive to the touch, the solution is optical measuring systems. They measure non-destructively and accurately. We at VTPL use "Optive Classic" a Multisensor & optical measuring system supplied by Hexagon Metrology to inspect miniature, flexible & touch sensitive parts. The advantage of this system over other CMM is that, a single system is sufficient for the contact and optical measurement of all inspection features on a work-piece. For inspecting micro scale parts and features system can seamlessly switch between sensors within its inspection program, and select the best measurement method for a particular feature's geometry, material and the specified accuracy. A touch probe is typically used to measure 3D features such as circles, cylinders, spheres and planes, which are large enough for the stylus to touch in multiple locations. Visions sensors are recommended for measuring features too small for a touch probe and parts those require noncontact measurement. Vision software examines an image to detect the gradation change in lighting shadow intensity and automatically determines and digitizes the edges of a feature.
"Optive" is suited for a wide variety of industrial measuring, inspection and quality control applications. Common applications are small plastic molded switch gear components, thin small sheet metal parts, circuit board plates, PCB parts, die & mold inserts, cutting tools & inserts, wrist watch gears, 2D & 3D cam profiles, small surgical equipment's accessories and many other parts where size of measurement is less than 0.5 mm that touch probe can't measure reliably.
For automotive & aerospace assemblies, fixtures & positioning gauges play critical role for accuracy of manufactured component. Using portable CMM's our expert technicians built complex fixtures to conformity to 3D CAD data provided by customer. Over period of time same fixture can be validated with original measurement data for certification.
